Peter McIntyre has been a journalist since 1970, covering finance, industry, crime, and social issues before finding his home as a health correspondent. He now writes for Cancer World the journal published by the European School of Oncology, focusing on the patient view of treatment, care and quality of life. He works with European journalists to improve their coverage of cancer issues and has trained cancer specialists to work more effectively with the media. Peter also specialises in development issues and has written for UNICEF, the World Health Organisation and more recently about the innovative BRAC water and sanitation programme in Bangladesh.
Penny is Precision Medicine Lead at Innovate UK and will be presenting in the Research perspectives session.
As part of Innovate UK’s Health & Life Sciences Sector, Penny oversees the organisation’s precision medicine activities and played an integral part in establishing the Precision Medicine Catapult. Penny also led the organisation’s infectious disease programme, which aimed to reduce the morbidity, mortality and economic burden due to infectious diseases in humans and animals.
Matt McLoughlin is the Senior Director for Compliance at Scientist.com and will be giving a short talk on “Providing standardised access to Human Biological Samples”
Matt’s responsibilities include Human Biological Sample (HBS) compliance, where he works with suppliers and pharmaceutical companies. He has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 16 years. For 15 years he worked within AstraZeneca (AZ), spending 12 years as a senior scientist working in R&D Genetics and Personalised Healthcare & Biomarkers before moving to Procurement to become the Global Category Manager for HBS. Within this role he implemented a new category strategy that transformed the compliance, visibility, traceability and accessibility to HBS for scientists across all the AZ geographic locations. Matt now looks to bring that experience and expertise to the wider industry. […]
The Centre is proud to announce that Professor Dame Jessica Corner, DBE, will be opening our UK Biobanking Showcase event!
Professor Dame Jessica Corner is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Nottingham. She was previously executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton and Director of NIHR CLARHC Wessex. She has held academic positions at King’s College, London, and was Director of the Centre of Cancer and Palliative Care Studies at the Institute of Cancer Research, London for 12 years and was the first nurse to be appointed to a Chair at the Institute. She conducted the first clinical trials of non-pharmacological management of the symptom of breathlessness in lung cancer and nurse-led care in lung cancer, as well as important studies of the pathway to diagnosis in lung cancer.
